Charlton Athletic Takeover Talks Ongoing

According to the Daily Mail, owner Roland Duchâtelet claimed that the club are in talks with “various interested parties”.

Additionally it was announced via the club’s official website that Katrien Meire will be departing the club at the end of the month. Speaking to the club’s website, Meire said: “This has personally been a very difficult decision to make as I love working for the club with all the terrific staff at The Valley and Sparrows Lane but I believe I need a new challenge.”

Meire was appointed to the role in January 2014. However, her tenure has been clouded with heavy criticism as she has been on the front-line of action with the board.

Potential Takeover

As the departure of Meire was confirmed, the board announced they were not going to be seeking a replacement. However, the prospect of a takeover is growing ever more possible.

Also speaking to the club’s official website, Duchâtelet said: “We will now be reviewing our management structure. Katrien will leave at the end of this month but we’re not looking to directly replace her as we’re currently in talks with various interested parties regarding a potential takeover of the club.”

Roland Duchâtelet acquired 100% of the club’s shares in 2014. However, he recently stated he was open to selling the club. Australian businessman Andrew Muir is apparently interested in buying the South-London club.

Brighter Days Ahead At The Valley?

Since Dulchatelet’s ownership began, there have been seven managers in the hotseat at The Valley. The club also suffered relegation to the third tier two seasons ago. Current manager Karl Robinson looks to get the club promoted.

Currently sitting 9th in League One, this season shall be vital for the Addicks. With promotion on the agenda, an imminent takeover would be ideal for the club as the second-half of the season fast approaches.
