Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s future must be sorted out as soon as possible amid interest from Arsenal according to manager Peter Stoger. Both Stoger and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger are unsure whether a transfer agreement can be struck for the 28-year-old in the next few days.
Wenger coy on Aubameyang agreement
When asked whether a deal was close to being finalised, the Frenchman added: “Confident or not confident? I don’t know. We are not close to a deal with Aubameyang or anyone else. It’s one possible movement but we have other things in mind as well. The final decision is not made.”
The Bundesliga side confirmed on Saturday they had received a bid for the Gabonese international. They reportedly valued in the region of €65million from Arsenal. The Gunners announced on Monday the capture of the Gabon international’s former team-mate Henrik Mkhitaryan in a trade for Alexis Sanchez with Manchester United.
Dortmund are thought to be holding out for a fee in excess of €70m for the Gabonese. He has been dropped for the club’s last two Bundesliga games as uncertainties over his future intensify.
Stoger has always stated Aubameyang is part of Dortmund’s plans and has assured him of his place in the line-up. The striker was involved in first-team training on Monday. The coach was unable to provide the current update on Aubameyang’s future, but hopes it will be sorted quickly.
Stoger wants Aubameyang’s future sorted
“Of course, we’d like there to be a resolution tomorrow, whatever it was. Everything that is clarified does everyone good in their lives. But if it takes longer then it will take longer. I cannot say if anything will happen in the next few days.” said Stoger.
Aubameyang signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2013 from Saint-Étienne and has gone on to make 143 appearances so far scoring 93 goals.
