Sir Alex Ferguson is currently in intensive care and fighting for his life after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
The legendary former Manchester United manager is recovering from emergency brain surgery undergone yesterday. His condition described as critical but stable. United confirmed the operation went ‘very well’, and he was now in intensive care. There he remains, under close observation.
The statement broadcast on Twitter read: “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone surgery today for a brain haemorrhage. The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to aid recovery. His family therefore request privacy in this matter. Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes.”
Sir Alex made a recent appearance Old Trafford, looking well as he watched . his former side beat Arsenal 2-1. Prior to the game, the 76-year-old presented a small gift to outgoing Gunners manager Arsene Wenger. A token of respect for his achievements with the London club.

Sir Alex is widely regarded as the greatest manager of all time. Having enjoyed a glittering career that saw him win 38 trophies. These include 13 League titles and 2 Champions League trophies. An incredible achievement over 26 years. Thus allowing over two decades of domination for Manchester United.
The club have struggled to move on since his departure in 2013. Sacking two managers over the next 3 years before appointing Jose Mourinho. Many still compare the current squad unfavourably to the flair and attacking prowess of Ferguson’s greatest sides.
News of his condition has shaken the football world. A plethora of tributes have been pouring in from shaken current and past players, fans and from other clubs worldwide.
Liverpool was one of those clubs. Ferguson enjoyed a fierce rivalry with the Merseyside’s also released a heartfelt statement wishing him a speedy recovery. Their statement read;
‘When the Hillsborough disaster happened back in 1989, Sir Alex Ferguson was straight on the phone to offer his help in any way he could. We want to wish the former Manchester United manager a speedy recovery.”
