Cristiano Ronaldo has sent shockwaves throughout the world of football, after admitting he could be on his way out of Real Madrid in the summer.
The 32-year-old Portuguese secured his 5th Champions League medal, and a fourth with Real Madrid last night, helping them to a 3-1 victory over Liverpool. However, it looks set to be his last for the club, if his comments after the game are anything to go by.
Ronaldo Unsure About His Future
Speaking following the final whistle in Ukraine, Ronaldo said: ‘In the coming days there will be answer about my future. It has been very nice playing for Real Madrid.
‘In the next few days I will give an answer. Now we have to enjoy the moment. The future of any player is not important. We have made history.’
Ronaldo appeared to regret the timing of his words later on, but stood by the fact that he cannot guarantee that he will remain at the Bernabeu.
‘Perhaps I should not have said what I said. Now I prefer to wait and enjoy the victory. In a few days I will talk about my future.
‘I did not want to take away merit for what has been done. It is something extraordinary. It’s a unique moment and you have to enjoy it.’
‘I cannot be sure that next year I will still be at the club. I will talk in the next few days.’
Despite failing to score in the final, Ronaldo still finished as the competition’s top scorer for the 5th consecutive season, and the sixth time in his career. Thoughts of him finally slowing down after a poor start to the season have been firmly dispelled, and he ends the season on an incredible 44 goals from 44 appearances.
Potential Return to Old Trafford?
He may be 32, but he would still be a huge asset to any interested team, and a potential return to Manchester United could well be on the cards. Rumors have been rife about Los Blancos president Florentino Perez planning a big-money move for Neymar, but it would have to involve the sale of Gareth Bale and Ronaldo himself.
