Welcome back to Football Transfer News by Last Word On Football. This edition looks at the latest rumours coming from the Sky Bet Championship, including Burnley’s chase for a veteran striker and the Luton Town youngster set to make a big step up. There are also other rumours from England’s second tier.
Championship Transfer News Including Peter Crouch and Jack Stacey
Premier League Return For Crouch?
Burnley are keen on making a move for Stoke City striker Peter Crouch to add more depth to their attacking options. The Clarets are looking at a deal worth £500,000 for the 37-year-old, which would see him return to the Premier League straight away after Stoke’s relegation last season.
The pull of Burnley playing in Europe may be enough to tempt Crouch to Turf Moor for what is likely to be his final showing as a player. Unlikely to be a starter, Crouch would give Burnley a Plan B going forward, should they need it.
Step Up For Stacey?
Luton Town manager Nathan Jones is said to be considering an offer made by West Brom for right-back Jack Stacey. The defender only joined the Hatters last season, from Reading, but could be tempted by a club the size of West Brom and the fact that they are one of the favourites for promotion.
Stacey would provide cover for Allan Nyom in the right-back position. However, the Cameroonian was part of the disastrous West Brom team of last season, so will need to perform admirably to convince new manager Darren Moore of his position. Craig Dawson has also played there in the past but it is unlikely he will still be with the club by the end of the transfer window.
Rotherham Making Move For Docherty
Rotherham United are set to make a move for Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty. The Scot has only been at Ibrox for six months but with Steven Gerrard said to have a lot of midfield options at his disposal, a move to England could potentially see Docherty play far more than he would north of the border.
Should a move materialise, he would join Clark Robertson, Kyle Vassell, Zak Vyner, Sean Raggett and Billy Joins in adding to the Millers’ squad this transfer window.
Middlesbrough Chase Liverpool Winger
Middlesbrough are in talks with Liverpool over a £10 million deal for winger Sheyi Ojo. The 21-year-old has been on the cusp of breaking into the Liverpool team for a number of years now but would be an almost-guaranteed starter at the Riverside.
Ojo has made just eight competitive appearances for the Reds and, despite impressing on their pre-season tour of the USA and scoring against Manchester United, a move would probably be the best thing for his career considering the number of players in front of him in Liverpool’s pecking order.
