The first round of this year’s FA Cup provided as many thrills as we expected, with a handful of non-league teams defying the odds and sealing a place in the hat for the second round draw. Some will wait for their fate to be decided as they face replays of their original ties, while the big boys of this stage of the competition also safely navigated their way into the next round.
FA Cup Second Round Draw
There are only 20 ties at this stage, with the Championship and Premier League teams set to enter the fray in Round Three. As such, the big ties in this round look to have gone the way of Guiseley, who host Fleetwood Town, and Maidstone United, who will play at home to Oldham. Guiseley were 4-3 winners over League Two side Cambridge United in Round One, while Maidstone also overcame League Two opposition with a 2-1 win over Macclesfield.
Also drawn were two all-League One ties as leaders Portsmouth travel to Rochdale and Sunderland will travel to Walsall twice in the space of a week, facing them in the league on November 24th before the FA Cup game the next weekend.
There will also be a Wales derby as Newport County make the trip to the north of the country to take on Wrexham.
