Who is Joelinton?

The Brazilian striker began his career in his home country, with Sport Recife, making his debut in 2014. A year later he made the move across to Europe, joining German side Hoffenheim in June 2015. However, he only made one appearance in his debut season in Germany. In 2016, he joined Rapid Wien on a two-year loan, where he enjoyed his best goal-scoring season. After 79 appearances and 21 goals in Austria, he broke into Hoffenheim’s first team in 2018.

In his first season in Hoffenheim’s first team, Joelinton scored 11 goals in his 35 appearances. Now, after a fruitful year in Germany, he is ready to move across the Channel, up to the North-East of England.

How Will Newcastle Benefit?

Newcastle United have been crying out for a new striker since losing Salomón Rondón and Ayoze Pérez. The pair provided 55% of Newcastle’s goals last season, and many fans were up in arms over the club’s lethargy in replacing them. Now, they seem to have taken the first step towards doing so. His success in the Bundesliga and his style of play lead us to believe that he can be a success in the Premier League.

Joelinton is a player who could be defined as a mixture of Pérez and Rondón. He stands tall at 6ft 1ins, one inch smaller than the latter. But, his strength allows him to hold up the ball in the same vein as Rondón. He tends to rely on his dribbling ability and technicality to go past defenders á la Pérez. Moreover from scoring 11 goals for Hoffenheim last year, he laid on 9 assists for his teammates. So it is clear than Joelinton is a player who can be as big starting attacks and finishing them off.
