Career So Far
Webster began his career on the south coast with Portsmouth. He made his senior debut aged just 17 when Portsmouth were in the Championship. Despite their downfall and turbulence off the field, Webster remained with Portsmouth as they fell into League Two.
However, he did eventually leave the club in the summer of 2016, returning to the Championship by signing for Ipswich Town. The move saw his now Brighton teammate Matt Clarke move in the opposite direction. During his time at Portman Road, he made 51 appearances across two seasons.
Webster’s impressive performances saw him an earn a move higher up the Championship table to Bristol City, in a move that could potentially have risen to £8 million. Last season he made 44 appearances for The Robins, helping them keep 12 clean sheets.
How Will Adam Webster Fit in at Brighton?
How Adam Webster fits in at Brighton remains to be seen. His transfer could cause a chain of transfers to occur.
Brighton stalwart Lewis Dunk has been attracting interest from Leicester City. According to a report by Damian Burchardt of The Sun, a fee for the 27-year-old defender has already been agreed. As a result, this could then cue Harry Maguire’s transfer to Manchester United, which is set to be confirmed soon.
However, if Dunk remains on the south coast with Brighton then it may cause a fight for places in the centre of defence under new manager Graham Potter. Dunk has formed a formidable partnership with Shane Duffy in the heart of Brighton’s defence. As a result, Webster may find it tough to break them apart if Potter remains with four at the back.
