Sky Bet League Two side Carlisle United have sacked manager Steven Pressley after ten months in charge.

Steven Pressley Departs Carlisle United

Ten Months In Charge

The League Two side released a statement earlier today announcing the end of Pressley’s ten-month tenure.

The decision comes the morning after United’s 3-1 defeat at Morecambe in the Leasing.com Trophy.

Carlisle’s defeat to the Shrimpers means the Cumbrians exited the competition.

The fourth-tier side’s hierarchy revealed a lack of progress under Pressley as the deciding factor in seeking change.

In a statement released by Blues chairman Andrew Jenkins, they said: “Steven has given his all and has worked tirelessly since the day he joined us.

“We understand the challenges and have supported him throughout, but we haven’t seen the evidence of progress we expected or needed to see.

“This is not something we can allow to continue, so sadly it is time to change, move on and look forward.

“I want to say a personal thank you to Steven, he has been a pleasure to work with and this has not been an easy decision for us to make.

“He leaves with our very best wishes.”

Pressley’s assistant, Gavin Skelton, and coaches Nathan Rooney, Craig Wight and Dave Waldie will take the reins on an interim basis.

Pressley leaves Carlisle 19th in League Two – the Blues are five points clear of the relegation spot but nine points adrift of the play-off positions.
