What Was Said
Gillingham announced on their website they had signed winger Jordan Roberts on loan for the rest of the season. The winger arrives after 18 months at Ipswich where he has struggled to make an impact.
He made 12 appearances under then Ipswich manager Paul Hurst in the Championship but struggled for game time under current boss Paul Lambert.
Speaking to the Gillingham website about his new signing, manager Steve Evans said: “My knowledge of Jordan goes back to Crawley when he had a stunning season.
“He played in the Championship last season, there was a change of Manager and this season he hasn’t played a part. He played against us in the EFL Trophy and was outstanding and he really tested my back four.
“We have been patient and we are grateful to Ipswich Town for their help and assistance.”
Roberts could make his debut this weekend when Gillingham entertain Peterborough United.
Gillingham Also Extend Olly Lee’s Loan
As well as announcing Jordan Roberts, Gillingham also confirmed midfielder Olly Lee has extended his loan until the end of the season.
The midfielder has become a fixture in the Gillingham playing 25 times since arriving from Hearts in the summer.
His second spell has been fruitful, notching four league goals. He has become a leader and player Steve Evans can rely on.
Steve Evans added: “I’m really pleased because he has had the opportunity to speak to other interested clubs, notably two in our league who are higher in the table than us.
“He made it clear that his preference was to stay at Gillingham; he has enjoyed the first half of the season; he has played a big part.
“He has been exceptional in some games. I was down yesterday because I thought we might be without him for Posh. Thank You to Hearts for making it happen.”
