Influential Squad Member at Manchester United

Having arrived at Old Trafford in 2011, Ashley Young has been an influential part of the squad, under five different managers.

During a nine-year stay with Manchester United, the 34-year-old has made 261 appearances and won a haul of five trophies.

Young was part of the side who won the Premier League title during Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season at Old Trafford. He made 19 appearances during that run to winning their 20th top-flight trophy, operating predominantly as a winger.

During the latter stages of his time with the club, Young has become a versatile member of the squad, showing that he could not only play as a winger but also as a full-back on either side of the pitch.

It was an idea first tested by former manager Louis van Gaal, who used him at left-back in place of Luke Shaw. As a result, Young has been called upon by both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to fill in at full-back on a number of occasions.

However, his move comes as a result of not fitting in with Solskjaer’s style or policy on handing young players opportunities. He has made 18 appearances so far this season, six of which have come in cup competitions.

How Will Ashley Young Fit in at Inter Milan?

Ashley Young is likely to play a bit-part role under Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte, with his side sitting level on points at the top of the Serie A table alongside Juventus.

However, it is likely that when called upon, he will take up a role at wing-back in Conte’s side. The Italian using a 3-4-3 system, using attacking full-backs with good defensive minds.
