The Deal

Bristol City announced via their website they had signed the striker. Wells arrives as the Robins’ first signing. The deal is worth in the region of £4 million.

The well-travelled striker is ready to seize his chance and add another promotion to his CV.

Bristol City have beaten off several Championship clubs including Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers for the striker. Wells is prolific at this level and is ready to fire City to the Premier League.

Wells spent the first half of the season on loan at QPR, scoring 13 league goals. Burnley took up the option to recall him and now have agreed a permanent exit. It’s a disappointing blow for QPR, who wanted the striker permanently. However, Financial Fair Play constraints meant the R’s were priced out.

QPR’s loss is Bristol City’s gain. Lee Johnson is delighted to have a striker on board as he plots promotion. He has been desperate to add more firepower following injuries and departures to his forward line.

Benik Afobe’s loan was cut short due to injury while Rodri left at the end of his short-term deal. Goals have been elusive for City at times this season so Johnson will hope Wells is the consistent scoring figure he has craved.

The striker is a Bermuda international, scoring 12 goals in 19 games for his country. Wells is a goal scorer with his most prolific spells coming at Bradford City and Huddersfield Town. He scored 42 goals in 91 games for the Bantams. His three years at Huddersfield saw the striker score 45 goals in 144 games.

Wells will be a key player for Bristol City and certainly, he will be confident he can bring his form from QPR.
