Villarreal have signed Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer. The Spanish international returns to his home country on a permanent deal.
Villarreal Sign Striker Paco Alcacer From Borussia Dortmund
The Deal
Villarreal announced via their website they had signed the striker. Alcacer joins for an undisclosed fee, signing a deal until the summer of 2025.
He returns to Spain after 18 productive months at Borussia Dortmund. However, the arrival of Erling Haaland has prompted the Spaniard to leave to ensure his place in Spain’s squad for the European Championships.
The striker has an excellent record for Spain, scoring 12 goals in 19 games. A move to Villarreal appears to suit all parties, with the player wanting game time and Dortmund needing the funds.
The striker began his career at Villarreal’s neighbours Valencia, scoring 43 goals in 124 games for his home team. He completed a move to Barcelona, scoring 15 goals in 50 games for the Catalonian giants.
His best goal ratio came at Dortmund, notching 26 goals in 47 games. The striker will replace Karl Toko-Ekambi, who left Villarreal to join Lyon.
Borussia Dortmund Confirm Alcacer’s Departure
In a statement on their website, Borussia Dortmund confirmed the striker’s exit: “Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement with FC Villarreal, currently eighth in La Liga, over the immediate transfer of Paco Alcácer. The forward travelled to Spain on Wednesday to undergo the compulsory medical check.
“Alcácer, a 19-time international, initially joined BVB on loan from FC Barcelona in August 2018 and the transfer was later made permanent. He scored 23 goals in 37 Bundesliga appearances.”
Sporting Director Michael Zorc added: “We would like to thank Paco Alcácer for his performances in a BVB shirt and wish him good health and every sporting success for the future.”
