Timo Werner is Waiting for Liverpool

German Hoping for Liverpool Transfer

One player who has repeatedly been linked to Liverpool is Timo Werner. According to The Athletic, the player is now hoping for this move. Werner is clearly a talented figure who would add a lot to the Liverpool squad. The striker has scored 88 goals in 147 games for RB Leipzig and a striker of his talent would help to relieve the pressure from Liverpool’s front three.

Where Would Timo Werner Fit at Anfield?

A player of Werner’s quality could walk into the majority of starting line-ups across Europe. However, this would not be the case at Liverpool. Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane rightfully occupy the attacking slots and it would take a lot to displace them.

There is also the matter of squad balance. The front three have shown a commendable loyalty since signing for Liverpool, helping to put the club back where it belongs. It is fair that they would expect the club to show the same loyalty back.

However, squad players such as Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri are expected to depart in summer. There are also the issues of the Olympic Games and the African Cup of Nations returning to January, meaning that Liverpool will be without Salah and Mane for extended periods of time. Werner would certainly get game time in these cases and has the talent to push for a regular starting spot.

If Liverpool decide to sign Werner, he will not come in as a like for like replacement. His role will be to provide competition for the attackers. He is also a few years younger than the main trio, so he could eventually make one of the starting spots his own.
