Another pulsating round of Ligue 1 matches has come to an end, with plenty of talking points and exciting action. Kasper Dolberg notched a brace to help Nice win the Riviera derby while Rennes put five past Montpellier. Leaders Paris Saint-Germain saw their match postponed but there were crucial wins elsewhere for Angers, Dijon, Lille, Metz and Reims.
Kasper Dolberg Scores Twice to Secure Derby Day Victory for Nice
The Danish Striker Now Has 11 League Goals
Nice maintained their excellent league form by coming from behind to win the Riviera derby. A brace from Kasper Dolberg secured Nice a priceless derby win and, as a result, they climb above Monaco in the table. It’s disappointment for the visitors, though, as their five-match unbeaten run comes to an end.
It was Monaco who dominated the early exchanges and took a deserved lead through Ligue 1 top scorer Wissam Ben Yedder. The French striker scored his 18th league goal of the season after Tiemoue Bakayoko put him through on goal. Nice responded well in the second half and levelled through Dolberg, who latched onto Adam Ounas’ cross.
The game’s big turning point arrived when Monaco were reduced to ten men after Stevan Jovetic was sent off for a rash challenge on Arnaud Lusamba. That gave Nice the incentive to find a winner which they did deep into stoppage time when Dolberg fired into the top corner to complete his brace and give Nice the bragging rights.
Adrien Hunou, Like Kasper Dolberg, Also Scored Twice as Rennes Thrashed Montpellier
Rennes collected a third straight league win in style as they put five past Montpellier. Adrien Hunou’s brace helped Julian Stephan’s side secure their biggest league win of the season as they maintain third in the table. Meanwhile, it was a miserable afternoon for Montpellier, who slump to a third loss in four matches.
Rennes’ rout began just nine minutes into the game when full-back Faitout Maouassa struck a thunderous shot from outside the box. Hunou’s influence on the game began to increase and he notched Rennes’ second with a cool finish into the bottom corner.
Rennes killed the contest with two goals in five second-half minutes. Flavien Tait also scored a wonderful goal from outside the box before Romain Del Castillo converted from the penalty spot. The central midfielder converted after Junior Sambia fouled Benjamin Bourigeaud. Hunou completed his brace and Rennes rout with just three minutes left after Rennes were awarded another penalty after Pedro Mendes fouled Sascha Boey.
