Six Players Coventry City Could Lose as Free Transfers This Summer
Contracts Expiring
Coventry City could lose a number of players to free transfers with the coronavirus pandemic causing immediate concern.
The Sky Blues’ season will not continue until April 30 at the earliest but the suspension could run into the summer.
Mark Robins has made Coventry one of the stand-out sides in League One.
They enter the enforced break five points clear of second-placed Rotherham, eight points clear of seventh-placed Sunderland.
The lowest the Sky Blues have fallen in the standings this term is 10th and have been a firm promotion contender.
Jordy Hiwula
England U19 international Hiwula has made 15 appearances this season for the Sky Blues.
He has, however, not featured on the pitch since a substitute role in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland back in November 2019.
The 25-year-old has been touted as one to leave the Sky Blues having struggled for opportunities under Robins. It is likely, therefore, that he will assess his options this summer.
Amadou Bakayoko
The 24-year-old struggled for form at the start of the season.
It took him eleven matches – four of which he was not involved – to bag the first of his five goals this season.
His performances did improve marginally before the enforced suspension but he ranks third – and fourth across the club – among his fellow forwards.
Zain Westbrooke
His impressive form this season makes it almost guaranteed that he will receive new terms regardless of promotion.
The exciting midfielder has been linked to West Brom and Derby County so could potentially have his head turned.
Reise Allassani
Allassani has had his professional career consistently blighted by injury.
The former Crystal Palace youngster has not been close to the first-team squad for most of the two years he has been with the Sky Blues.
Since 2018 he has been on-loan with a trio of non-league clubs; he suffered a knee ligament injury with Dulwich Hamlet earlier this season.
Charlie Wakefield
Wakefield is another to have question marks raised around his future having barely made an impact on the first-team.
The former Chelsea starlet has never really got his Coventry career up and running due to a number of injuries.
His latest setback, a hamstring injury, has meat he has not featured since a ten-minute run-out against Gillingham in August 2019.
Jordan Young
Young’s opportunities with the first-team have been limited.
Coventry’s success this season, particularly of Westbrooke, Liam Kelly and Callum O’Hare, has meant that he has not been needed to be called upon by Robins.
The midfielder has been limited to just one appearance – coming in the EFL Trophy – this season.
