Barnsley Loanee Yet to Extend Deal
The winger’s current loan deal at the KCOM Stadium is set to expire on Tuesday.
Hull City boss Grant McCann maintains hope that the on-loan winger will extend his deal, but the Tigers have just 72 hours to strike an agreement with Barnsley.
Wilks featured for the Yorkshire outfit in a 3-3 draw away to Birmingham City on Saturday, but it will be his last appearance for Hull unless a deal is struck.
City have until the early part of this week to turn Wilks’ loan into a permanent transfer; allowing the winger to feature in Hull City’s final seven games of the Championship season.
Barnsley were unwilling to let Wilks remain with their relegation rivals, but Hull City still have the option to purchase the winger up until June 30.
Asked whether the draw at St Andrew’s would be Wilks’ final game for the Tigers, boss McCann refused to rule any option out.
He said: “It could be, it possibly couldn’t be, if that makes sense.
“The football club is still in conversation with Barnsley at this present time and we’ll see.
“His loan finishes on Tuesday so we’ve got time, tomorrow and Monday, to try and strike a deal and do something with Barnsley if we can.
“We’ll see how that one goes.”
Since moving to City in January, the loanee has made 12 league and cup appearances – he has also started both of the Tigers’ post-lockdown fixtures.
Should Wilks return to Oakwell, McCann is blessed with a number of options.
Martin Samuelsen, Josh Bowler and Keane Lewis-Potter can all offer alternative services out wide.
