Bolton Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of Ian Evatt on a three-year deal from Barrow.
Ian Evatt: Bolton Wanderers Confirm Managerial Appointment
Leap of Faith in Appointing Evatt
The 38-year-old is to become Keith Hill’s successor at the University of Bolton Stadium.
Evatt’s previous employers, Barrow, have been the only club to allow him to take on a managerial role.
But his impressive performances with the Cumbrian side, including promotion to League Two this term, have led to attention being brought to his name.
He had previously been caretaker manager of Chesterfield but his only full-time role has been with Barrow.
He is joined by his assistant at Barrow, Peter Atherton, a former Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday player.
Having agreed personal terms, Evatt has now been appointed as Bolton Wanderers manager.
Upon his appointment, Evatt said: “Bolton Wanderers is a fantastic football club with an incredible history and fanbase and this is a really exciting opportunity for us all.
“Hopefully I can bring a brand and an identity that people will enough watching – attacking and scoring goals is what we all want to see.
“We want to be challenging and competing for promotion at the top of the division and to see a packed University of Bolton Stadium.
“The community and town is also very important to me. We will get out there and engage with them and make them proud of Bolton Wanderers.”
Tobias Phoenix, head of football operations, added: “We had a very clear idea of how we wanted to shape the future of this fantastic football club on and off the grass. Ian epitomises everything we wanted from a head coach.
“We are all excited to get to work in preparation for the new season.”
