Pep Clotet Leaves Birmingham City Role Immediately

Pep Clotet

Pep Clotet has stepped down from his role of head coach at Birmingham City.

The Spaniard parted ways with the Midlands club after their 3-1 loss to Swansea City on Wednesday night.

The Blues had already announced that the 43-year-old would leave St Andrew’s at the end of the season.

However, both parties have since agreed to go their separate ways sooner.

Clotet Steps Down Immediately

In a statement released by the club on Wednesday night, they said: ”Pep Clotet has this evening left his position as head coach.

”He was due to step down at the season’s end but it was mutually agreed that he should relinquish the role immediately.“

The club added: ”The board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Pep for his efforts during the past two years. We will be making no further comment at this time.”

A Short Stay in the Second City

The former Oxford United head coach was only made permanent manager of the Blues in December.

He previously worked for the club as assistant manager to Garry Monk until he was sacked in June 2019.

Clotet originally confirmed his departure last month stating he would leave at the end of the season to ”explore other coaching opportunities.”

Birmingham Winless in 11 Games

Birmingham City’s dismal form continued on Wednesday evening at the hands of Swansea.

The Blues couldn’t end their 11 match winless run as they lost 3-1 at St Andrew’s.

Lukas Jutkiewicz gave Clotet’s side hope early on before three goals with no reply by the South Wales side ended any chance of a rare win.

Birmingham City sit four points above the drop zone with four games remaining. Their next two fixtures, against relegation rivals Stoke City and Charlton Athletic may prove crucial.

In 47 matches at the helm, Clotet won 14 matches, drawing a further 14 and losing 19.
