REPORT: Japhet Tanganga Long-Term Contract Negotiations at Tottenham Hotspur Have Stalled

Japhet Tanganga

Contract talks between Japhet Tanganga and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stalled, according to The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare.

Japhet Tanganga Contract Negotiations Stall Over Wage Demands

Eccleshare reports that Spurs had offered the youngster £15,000 a week in this new contract. This is a massive increase from his current wage of £1,000 a week, but would still see him be one of the lowest-paid players at the club.

With one year left on his contract, Tanganga could end up leaving the club on a free next summer. He has reportedly caught the eye of clubs in England, Italy and Germany.

Both parties are keen of agreeing a new deal, but Tanganga wants more than the £15,000 being offered.

Tanganga Could Start on Sunday

The young defender could start Spurs’ final home game of the season against Leicester City tomorrow.

First-choice right-back Serge Aurier is heading back to his native France to be with his family, following the tragic death of his brother Christopher earlier this week.

The 21-year-old has had somewhat of an impact at Tottenham this season. He made his debut under then-manager Mauricio Pochettino in the third round of the League Cup against Colchester United in September.

Tanganga then impressed new Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, who gave him his Premier League debut against Liverpool in January.

Despite the soon-to-be champions winning at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium 1-0, Tanganga got the plaudits for his display that evening.

Just three days later, he featured in Spurs’ third-round FA Cup replay win over Middlesbrough – a game in which he played the full 90 minutes and was also named man of the match.

Tanganga has played 11 games altogether this season, with six of them coming in the top flight.

It could be seven tomorrow as Tottenham face Leicester in the penultimate match of the season. With both going for Europe, and teams breathing down their necks, both teams are in need of the points.
