REPORT: AC Milan Open Talks With Tottenham Hotspur for Serge Aurier

After ending the Premier League season without Champions League qualification, Tottenham Hotspur  right-back Serge Aurier is being linked with a move away from north London. According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan have opened talks with Tottenham for the 27-year-old defender. Aurier will be Milan’s main target in their hunt for a full-back this summer, according to Romano.

Milan Building for Champions League Qualification Next Season

The news comes as a promising Serie A season for AC Milan comes to a close. The Italian giants finished a respectable sixth place and looked more improved than ever post lockdown. With Zlatan Ibrahimović at the helm, too, the former European champions will be hoping to mould a squad capable of Champions League qualification- starting with the transfer of Serge Aurier.

Right-Back Reinforcements Needed for Spurs if Serge Aurier Departs

If the reports are to be believed, then Spurs will have some task on their hands when searching for potential replacements. Aurier’s exit would leave them with just one recognisable right-back with that being Kyle Walker-Peters who could also be departing this summer; the Englishman could depart in a permanent switch to Southampton after a successful loan spell.

Amid the current impact of COVID-19, too, Spurs may struggle to find a suitable replacement for the potential outgoings.

Aurier Interest Doing Damage to Deals for Potential Incomings?

The reports of Milan’s interest in Aurier could even affect Spurs’ pursuit of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer.

Hojbjerg has been linked with a swap move to Spurs with Walker-Peters going the other way. If Aurier were to leave, however, then one would assume Walker-Peters’ importance to Jose Mourinho would grow significantly.

Milan’s interest could certainly throw a spanner into the works of Spurs’ transfer plans this summer. Those based in north London will be keen to prepare for a potential return to the top four and, therefore, Champions League qualification.
