Nottingham Forest have confirmed the permanent signing of Jack Colback on a free from Newcastle United.
Nottingham Forest Announce the Signing Jack Colback From Newcastle United
Did not Play Last Season
Colback did not kick a ball for Newcastle last season and was released by the Premier League side last month.
This will be the Newcastle born’s third spell at the City Ground. He first joined the club on loan in January 2018 and helped the East Midlands’ side to a 17th place finish and Championship safety.
Colback then re-joined Forest on a season-long loan that summer, with an option-to-buy at the end of that 2018/19 season. But the club did not exercise that option and he returned to Newcastle United.
Popular Figure Returns
The signing of Jack Colback will have undoubtedly pleased the Forest supporters.
The midfielder was a real fans favourite during his 18-month spell at the club, and now they will be hoping Colback can work his magic for the Reds once again.
The 30-year-old adds to the luxury of central midfielders at Forest including Samba Sow, Ben Watson, Ryan Yates and Tiago Silva.
One of Forest’s biggest issues last season was their creativity in the middle of the park. On many occasions last season they were unable to break down well organised defences, which cost them as they missed out on the play-offs by goal difference.
With Joao Carvalho somewhat left out by Lamouchi a lot last season, Silva was arguably the most creative midfielder in the regular squad, and maybe they were too reliant on the Portuguese.
But with Colback back at the City Ground it will take some of that pressure off of Silva. He is a technically gifted midfielder, who can find the killer pass. Colback also adds to Lamouchi’s conservative style of play through his high work rate and his defensive ability too.
It’s a huge season for the club, following their disappointing end to last season. The fans will be hoping that Jack Colback can help Nottingham Forest push for a top six finish.
