Kai Havertz remains Chelsea’s main summer transfer target, and the Blues are still confident that a deal can be reached to bring the German international to Stamford Bridge.
The London club’s intention of re-starting talks with Bayer Leverkusen was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano following the German club’s exit from the Europa League. Frank Lampard is also in the market for a left-back and a new goalkeeper, but a deal for Havertz currently tops the agenda.

Havertz Scored Against Inter Milan but Ended on the Losing Side
Bayer Leverkusen were knocked out of the Europa League by Inter Milan at the quarter-final stage. Havertz once again found the net in that game but was unable to prevent his side from succumbing to a 2-1 defeat.
Havertz’s goal brought his total to 18 across all competitions this season. Remarkably, 15 of those goals have come since the turn of the year as the 21-year-old firmly places himself into the shop window.
Leverkusen have been steadfast in their desire to retain Havertz’s services until the end of their Europa League campaign. Now that is over, talks with Chelsea can resume, and it would be no surprise to see momentum gather pace given the player’s status as Frank Lampard’s priority signing as he continues his Chelsea rebuild.
Multiple Signings Still on the Agenda for Chelsea
Should the transfer go through as expected, Havertz will become Chelsea’s third major signing in this window so far. He would join fellow German international Timo Werner, as well as Moroccan winger Hakim Ziyech, in moving to Stamford Bridge.
Having served a transfer ban last summer, and sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid for a fee that could exceed £150 million, Chelsea plan to be hugely active in the market this summer.
Kepa Arrizabalaga seemingly has no future in London, and Lampard is on the hunt for a replacement for the Spanish goalkeeper. Additionally, the club will focus on recruiting a new left-back if and when the Havertz transfer is concluded.
That would mean a minimum of five new senior additions to the Chelsea squad, and with Sky Sports News reporting that the club would listen to offers for up to a third of the current first team, we could be set for a flurry of transfer activity involving the Blues before the October deadline.
