Manchester United Could Strengthen Defence with Sergio Reguilon Bid

Sergio Reguilon

Manchester United are set to launch a bid for Sergio Reguilon, but are not prepared to meet Real Madrid’s asking price of £27.2 million for the Spaniard. This is according to Fabrizio Romano and Ed Aarons of The Guardian.

The latest in this current transfer saga is that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the Spanish defender (David Ornstein). Both Spurs and United will want to strengthen their defences and especially their left-back berths.

Manchester United Register Interest In Reguilon

Spanish International Attracts Attention From Red Devils

United are interested in the 23-year-old left-back, having monitored his situation for some time. However, the club are unwilling to meet Real Madrid’s valuation of Reguilon, who spent last season on loan at Sevilla.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to provide competition for the left-back berth before the summer transfer window closes on 5 October.

Per The Guardian, Reguilon is not expected to play a major part in Zinedine Zidane’s squad for the upcoming season. The Spanish international is also keen to move to Old Trafford as he seeks a new challenge.

United have expressed their disinterest in any buy-back clause, according to Fabrizio Romano, that could be included in Reguilon’s contract. Reguilon has developed his game at Los Blancos since he was eight years old.

Reguilon Keen to Move Despite Real’s Reluctance

Having won the Europa League whilst on loan at Sevilla last season – which incidentally included a victory over Manchester United – Reguilon is interested in a move to Old Trafford.

With the promise of first-team football and a fresh start in the Premier League, Reguilon would have the opportunity to kickstart a career that has never really worked out for him at the Bernabeu. He has made just 14 appearances in the Spanish capital. Since making his Madrid debut two years ago the player has had to ply his trade out on loan.

United’s interest in the youngster is a sign that they are aware of a relative position of weakness.

Whilst Solskjaer will be very happy with his attack, he has alternated between Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw on the left side of defence. However, the signing of Reguilon would make him a sure starter at left-back.
