REPORT: Peterborough United Lead Hull City in Randell Williams Chase

Randell Williams

Exeter City winger Randell Williams is the subject of interest from a minimum of three clubs higher up the divisions in the EFL. However, according to Philip Buckingham of the Hull Daily Mail, it is League One side Peterborough United that are currently leading the chase.

Randell Williams Subject of Peterborough and Hull Interest

Minimum of Three Clubs Express Interest

While there is also interest from Championship side Middlesbrough, it is Peterborough and Hull that have the best chance of striking a deal for Exeter’s 23-year-old winger.

It was thought that Hull, relegated from the Championship last season, were in the driving seat. However, Exeter chairman Julian Tagg admitted that Peterborough’s bid was a “better number” and it is now the Posh that lead the race.

Speaking to Radio Exe, Tagg said: “It’s been documented that Hull are in at a number, not that we thought was right or that Matt [Taylor] thought was right or the club thought was right.

“And Peterborough, the other one, got to a better number that we thought was probably the right place. Again, multifaceted aspects to it. It’s not linear, it’s not what we want as the whole plethora of things as the contract runs out in a year.”

Randell Williams Would Be a Key Signing for Both Clubs

It’s long been thought that Williams would make the step up to League One eventually. Peterborough have a habit of taking the best players from League Two and selling them on later for larger profits, so their interest makes sense and would align with their previous transfer moves.

For Hull, Williams would go some way to replacing the quality that they lost in selling Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki back in January. With both of those players now in the Premier League with West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion respectively, signing a player from League Two may, on paper, seem like a downgrade to fans. However, Williams has more than enough quality to shine in League One and could be a key part of their expected promotion charge.
