Sam Nombe Completes Loan Move to Luton Town From MK Dons

Sam Nombe

MK Dons striker Sam Nombe has completed a loan move to Championship side Luton Town. The deal includes an option for Luton to buy the 21-year-old at the end of the loan.

A Rare Switch

Nombe becomes one of a select group of players to have played for both Luton and MK Dons. The young striker has broken into the first-team in the last 18 months and featured heavily under both Paul Tisdale and Russell Martin.

The move will come as a surprise to many, particularly Dons fans. It leaves Carlton Morris, Joe Mason and Cameron Jerome as the only fit, senior forwards at the club. Kieran Agard is currently on his way back from injury but does not appear to be fancied by manager Martin.

This move could also see Jay Bird handed more opportunities in the first team. The 20-year-old spent most of last season out injured. However, he made his debut for the club earlier this month in the 3-2 win against Stevenage in the EFL Trophy, scoring twice.

More Options for Luton

Nathan Jones already has a number of options at his disposal going forward. However, at Championship level (and providing, of course, Luton sign Nombe permanently in the future), he will be one for the future.

It’s unlikely that his record of six goals in 46 appearances will see him move ahead of the likes of James Collins and Harry Cornick in the pecking order. Minutes in the FA Cup later this season, though, could give Nombe a chance to impress.
