Mata Voices his Opinion on Where Messi Should go
Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has had his say on the Lionel Messi saga. The Argentine’s transfer saga was one of the hottest topics during the last transfer window. Several of the big clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Inter Milan, were all linked with the 33-year-old, but a move failed to materialise.
Mata, a huge admirer of Lionel Messi, hopes that the Argentine moves to Manchester United rather than Manchester City if he decides to move to Manchester at the end of his contract.
In the interview, the Spaniard said: “What he still does is just unbelievable. I hope if he comes to Manchester it’s to my club and not the other.
“I have a soft spot for Messi, he is a guy that every time I see him play football makes my life better. Of course, all the players can have better seasons than him, but he’s the one that I like the most, and I will give him the trophy for the best player every year, because of what he’s done in his career.”
The Messi situation
The Lionel Messi saga was one of the most talked-about transfers during this summer. The Argentine dropped a bombshell last August after he decided to leave Barcelona at the end of last season. But, a €700 million release clause and vagueness over his contract saw Messi staying at the Camp Nou.
With his contract expiring this season, rumours are rife about Lionel Messi finally ending his Barcelona journey. The Argentine hefty wages and Barcelona’s financial struggles have almost ruled out another contract extension for the Argentine. Messi, himself, has at times hinted about his intentions to leave the club at the end of this season.
Manchester City were one of the favourites to sign the Argentine superstar when the saga first popped up. The presence of Pep Guardiola and City’s financial might had made them favourites to sign Messi before the move failed. Citizens are once again one of the favourites to sign the Messi, with his contract ending this summer.
