League Two club Barrow have confirmed that they have parted ways with manager David Dunn.

The 40-year-old leaves the club following a 4-2 defeat to Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon.

Challenging Job

The task at hand for Dunn was always going to be challenging. Keeping the Bluebirds up on a shoestring budget following an almost 50-year exodus from the Football League was always going to be tough.

Furthermore, the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder did not take over in the most desired circumstances. He replaced Ian Evatt, who left Holker Street for Bolton Wanderers after guiding them to the National League title.

Barrow’s start showed what Dunn was up against. They failed to win any of their opening 11 games, as they acclimatised to life in League Two.

Success finally arrived in the form of back-to-back victories against Mansfield Town and Bradford City. Despite the confidence brewing following the 1-0 at home to Bradford, form has failed to continue, as they have failed to win any of their last seven games.

The nail in the coffin came on Saturday afternoon, as his side succumbed to a 4-2 defeat away to Crawley. Again, it proved to be a familiar tale, as late goals from Max Watters and Tom Nichols sealed the win for John Yems’ side.

Club Statement

A club statement on the official Barrow AFC website reads: “The Club can confirm that we have today parted company with First Team Manager David Dunn.

“The Board would like to place on record their sincere thanks to David for all his hard work and dedication since taking the role and wish him every success in his future career.

“Assistant Manager Rob Kelly will now take temporary charge of First Team affairs until a successor is appointed.”

Barrow’s next game in League Two is away to Scunthorpe United on December 15.
