Bolton Wanderers defender George Taft has joined Scunthorpe United on loan for the rest of the season.

Taft Only Joined Bolton in the Summer
The centre back only joined Bolton in the summer after a spell at Cambridge United. He is a tall, dominant defender but his move to Bolton hasn’t worked out so far, featuring just five times for the Trotters.
Taft arrives as Scunthorpe’s second signing of the window after Jem Karacan joined earlier this week. He is vastly experienced at League Two level, turning out for several sides. At 27-years-old, he is reaching the point in his career where he needs to play regularly.
A move to Glanford Park offers regular game time and a chance to sort out one of League Two’s leakiest defences. Only three sides have conceded more goals than the Iron this season. The defence is an area Neil Cox is desperate to address as he looks to guide Scunthorpe away from relegation danger.
Taft will certainly try to shore up the Iron defence. He is a threat from set-pieces and a great leader to have in the team.
Taft is in his line for a debut when local rivals Bradford City come to Glanford Park on Saturday. It is a big game for both teams with just a point and a place separating the two sides in the table.
Taft Ready to Show What he Can do
Speaking to IFollow Iron about his move, Taft said: “I’m so excited, I can’t wait to get going and I’m pleased to be here.”
“I didn’t need much time to think about it. It came about a couple of days ago. Scunthorpe is a great club, so we got it done quickly. It’s about me getting out, getting some games and helping the team.”
“It’s been a frustrating (season so far). I haven’t had the game time that I would have liked and obviously Covid-19 has taken its toll on everyone.
“I just want to hit the ground running. I had a really good season last season and played some of my best football. I haven’t really had the game time this year to replicate that, so I’m hoping that I can get games here and show people what I can do.”
