Leyton Orient have confirmed the departure of midfielder Josh Wright by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old was 18 months into his fourth spell at the club.

Special Connection With the Club

Josh Wright made 87 appearances in all of his four spells with Orient combined. He has only appeared more for Gillingham. The midfielder was able to score 11 goals and assist 6 during his time with the O’s.

Wright scored the winning goal v Cheltenham Town in the club’s first game back in the Football League – and the first competitive fixture following Justin Edinburgh‘s tragic passing. It was especially special for Wright – who had previously worked with Edinburgh at Gillingham – as he was the former manager’s final signing for the club.

He has not featured for the club since late-November and it has now transpired that he has left Leyton Orient by mutual consent.

Best for Both Parties

Leyton Orient boss Ross Embleton said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with Josh, he’s a good professional, and has had a big impact on (the) club as a whole for a number of reasons; namely his performances on the pitch and the goals that he scored.

“We felt that, with Josh not getting the time on the pitch that he wanted, it suited both him and the club to give him the opportunity to explore different options, rather than wait until the summer.

“On behalf of myself, the players and all the staff we wish Josh all the best for the future.”

Wright has made an impact throughout the Football League and will now seek to find a new club during the January transfer window. This season, Wright had scored one goal in nine league appearances for Orient.
