Henrikh Mkhitaryan Close to AS Roma Extension
Mkhitaryan Time at Roma
Henrikh Mkhitaryan signed a one-year deal with Roma in the summer following his contract at Arsenal was cancelled by mutual consent. The forward had spent the 2019/20 season on loan at the Stadio Olympico and joined I Giallorossi on a permanent basis in the summer.
During his loan spell, Mkhitaryan netted nine times from 27 appearances in all competitions. The former Manchester United man has continued his impressive displays this season, adding nine goals from just 21 outings.
It isn’t just his goalscoring record that the Armenian has been successful. The 31-year-old has also provided 15 assists from his 48 years Roma appearances.
Mkhitaryan has scored more goals and provided more assists in fewer appearances than he managed during his time at Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
Out of Contract in the Summer
With Mkhitaryan out of contract in the summer, manager Paulo Fonseca will be pleased to tie him down following a string of impressive displays.
According to Romano, he will extend his stay in Rome until the summer of 2022. After entering the final six months of his current deal, the Armenian was at risk of leaving for a free in the summer.
Roma This Season
Roma have had a good start to the Serie A season. I Giallorossi sit third in the table and find themselves just four points behind leaders AC Milan. Fonseca’s side have lost just three times in the league.
The club impressed on Europe, too. Roma topped Europa League Group A with 13 points and will face Braga in the Round of 32.
