Robbie Cundy Joins Gillingham on Loan
Cundy Enjoyed a Productive Loan Spell at Cambridge United
A product of the Oxford United academy, Cundy joined the Robins in 2019 following spells with Gloucester City and Bath City.
This will be Cundy’s second loan spell in the EFL, His having spent the first half of this season at Cambridge United in League Two.
Cundy played 17 times in League Two forming an impressive partnership with Harry Darling. Darling has since moved to Milton Keynes Dons and Cundy will now spend the second half of the season in Kent.
The 23-year-old centre back was instrumental in Cambridge’s excellent first half of the season. He got some regular football in his belt and enhanced his football knowledge playing in an exciting footballing side.
However, he will now step up a league to join a robust Gillingham side. The Gills are very direct with their style of play and Cundy will relish the set-piece opportunities. The Gills sit languishing in mid-table with the club struggling to get a consistent run of results going.
He is line to make his debut for Gillingham on Tuesday evening when the Gills take on in-form Crewe Alexandra.
Steve Evans Finally Gets His Man After Watching Cundy For Several Months
Speaking to the Gillingham website about his new signing, manager Steve Evans said: “I have tracked the lad since I first watched him for Bristol City in a closed-door game last season, he was impressive.
“I was very impressed with him when he played against us earlier this season and obviously we have watched him since with interest.
“He is young and ambitious, he demonstrated very clearly he wanted to join us, we all wish him the very best.”
