Greg Cunningham to Rejoin Preston North End

Preston Want a Full-Back

North End have been in the market for a new full-back this transfer window, with the club identifying it as an area that needs strengthening.

It appears that in their search for a new defender, they have decided on former player Cunningham, who is set to now rejoin the club this window.

The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent seasons and has featured in just five league games for the Cardiff City this season in the league so far.

However, he was once an exceptionally good defender when he played for the Lilywhites and both he and the club will be hoping that he can hit that kind of form again upon a return to Deepdale.

Formerly Played for The Lilywhites

Cunningham was at North End for three seasons and played in over 100 league games for the club. Preston and the club’s fans were distraught when the player initially left on a deal to join Cardiff, so they’ll be happy to see him back at Deepdale.

Cunningham also had three seasons for Bristol City, where he also played nearly 100 games.

What Greg Cunningham Will Bring to  Preston North End

He has a wealth of experience in the Football League, playing in both the Championship and League One regularly throughout his career. He’s had stints at Blackburn and Nottingham Forest to add to the list of previous clubs but his best stint arguably came for North End as he became one of their most important players during his time there.

It is new Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy who has reportedly claimed that the left-back will be leaving to join Preston this month and it means that the club’s pursuit of a new full-back signing this transfer window could now be drawing to a close with this news.
