Millwall are eyeing a deal to bring Ryan Porteous to the club before the transfer window comes to a close, according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.
Millwall Eye Move for Hibs Defender Ryan Porteous
Previously On Loan at Edinburgh City in Scotland
The 21-year-old has come up through the youth ranks at Hibernian and, after a loan to Edinburgh City where he impressed, he has come back to his parent club and featured prominently, becoming a regular for the Scottish side.
Featuring 25 times so far this year, the defender has caught the attention of Millwall, who now want to bring him to England to the Championship before the transfer deadline.
Represented His National Side at Youth Level
Porteous has also represented his national side of Scotland at U19, U20 and U21 levels – so he is both experienced in terms of top-flight Scottish Premiership football and on the international stage too. Therefore, he could bring some more solidity to a Millwall side that want to be back up fighting towards the top of the Championship table.
He’s still a young player too at just 21-years-old and has plenty of potential to become one of the most solid defenders in the league.
Ryan Porteous Could Be a Solid Defender for Millwall
Porteous, despite his youth, reads the game very well for a defender. He has good vision and can anticipate a move before it has begun – just look at his number of interceptions so far this season for example and you will see the proof of this.
With 41 so far this campaign for Hibs, he is currently ranked fourth for the most interceptions in the Scottish Premiership – an impressive feat for the youngster.
Millwall then will be keen to bring him to the club but Hibs won’t want to let him leave on the cheap, especially considering his importance to them. Therefore, Millwall may have to stump up a large fee to bring him to England before the transfer deadline shuts its doors on February 1st.
