Phillips Moves Up a League

Burnley midfielder Phillips is moving up a league after spending the first half of the season on loan with Morecambe.

The 23-year-old impressed during his time at the Globe Arena, scoring 10 goals and registering seven assists in 32 appearances. It was his second spell with the Shrimpers, after spending the second half of the 2019/20 campaign there on loan.

Phillips’ goals was key to him making the move to the Wham Stadium, according to Stanley boss John Coleman.

He said to the official Accrington Stanley website: “He’s a good player, he’s done well in his loan spell for Morecambe and hopefully he’ll kick on for us.

“We are lacking goals from central midfield and he has an eye for goal, he gives us an attacking option from midfield as well as Sean McConville, Matt Butcher and Jon Russell.

“I don’t think we’ve had as many goals from midfield that I’d like, we’ve only had five or six and I’m looking for us to score more.”

Versatile Midfielder Makes Jump Up to League One

David Morgan joins Accrington from Southport of the National League North.

The 26-year-old is experienced at non-league level, having featured for the likes of Fylde, Ilkeston Town and Nuneaton Town. He made 128 appearances in total during his time with Southport, scoring 22 goals.

According to Coleman, it was Morgan’s versatility saw him make the leap from non-league to League One.

“He can be an attacking or defensive midfielder, he’s got a terrific shot on him and a good range of passing as well,” he said.

“He’s a man who has played a lot of football matches and he’s done consistently well for Southport, this is a chance for him in the Football League and these lads tend to grab it with both hands.”
