Bournemouth striker Josh King has officially completed a move to Premier League side Everton after spending half the season in the Championship. The move will please King who would have otherwise been forced into an entire season in the second division.
In the space of a few hours, he has gone from competing for the play-offs in the Championship to competing for the Champions League places at Goodison Park.
It is a move the Norwegian deserved, too, when considering the quality he possesses.
Josh King Completes Everton Switch
Premier League Proven
With Cenk Tosun and Moise Kean out on loan, Carlo Ancelotti would have been desperate to get some backup in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. And, in the form of Josh King, he’s got exactly that.
The forward has more than proven his Premier League quality during his time at Bournemouth. Just last season, in a relegated Bournemouth side, King still managed ten goal contributions with six goals and four assists in 26 appearances.
The season before that, he produced one of his most prolific seasons with 12 goals and three assists. It is clear that when at his best, King has the quality to take a team to a better level.
Squad Depth Key for Everton
In the pursuit of an unlikely qualification for Champions League football, squad depth is key. Without it, as proven by Leicester City last season, teams will burn out.
And that is why signing Josh King is so important. Should an injury occur to Calvert-Lewin, Ancelotti can trust that he has a perfectly capable forward on the bench ready to replace the goals.
The move is a smart one by those at Goodison Park, and one that could prove to be the difference-maker in Everton’s pursuit of European football.
Josh King is out of the Championship and back in the top flight.
