Oxford United have made Rangers winger Brandon Barker their third signing of deadline day after Joe Grayson and Elliot Lee.
Brandon Barker Joins Oxford United on Loan From Rangers
Third Deadline Day Signing
The 24-year-old has joined Oxford on loan until the end of the season. The winger follows central defender Joe Grayson who also arrived on loan from Championship club Blackburn Rovers and forward Elliot Lee from Luton.
Manager Karl Robinson will be hoping the additions can help push his side further up the table, having moved from relegation trouble to within three points of the playoffs following an 11 game unbeaten run.
That run includes a joint club record of eight successive wins in all competitions. The U’s will be looking to break that on Tuesday night when they take on AFC Wimbledon in the Football League Trophy.
What Barker Will Bring to Oxford
Karl Robinson has talked up bringing a quick winger to the club for some time and Barker ticks that box. Predominantly a left-winger, the former Manchester City man can also play on the right. He is quick, tricky and can deliver a final ball.
One thing he has struggled with in recent seasons, however, is injuries. That is the main reason for his lack of game time in Scotland this season, having signed from City the season before.
But, approaching full fitness, the move will allow him more game time and will give the U’s a pacey winger they have been searching for.
Barker Career so Far
Barker only made one appearance for Manchester City before loan spells at Rotherham United, NAC Breda, Hibernian and Preston North End.
He made just four appearances for the Millers before scoring twice in 23 outings in Holland. He also scored twice for Hibs from 30 appearances before adding another two while in the Championship at Preston.
He made 35 appearances for Manchester City’s U23 side, scoring nine times and adding six assists.
