Bournemouth have officially announced the permanent appointment of Jonathan Woodgate until the end of the season. The news follows a period in which Woodgate took charge on a temporary basis- replacing Jason Tindall.
During that temporary period, it seems he did enough to convince the Bournemouth hierarchy that he is the man for the job- at least until the end of the season.
One obvious thing, however, is the extent of the task on Woodgate’s hands. The Cherries currently sit sixth, just three points ahead of the chasing pack. At the start of the season, they were favourites for the title. Now in February, they may not even make the play-offs.

Neill Blake: ‘Professionalism of Woodgate Has Impressed Board’
Speaking after the appointment, Bournemouth chief Executive Neill Blake said: “Jonathan’s professionalism and leadership has impressed the board of directors since taking on the role of caretaker manager in difficult circumstances.
“The team’s performances and results have improved under his stewardship, and even our defeat at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday was a display which deserved a better result.
“As we head into a crucial part of the season, stability and clarity is of paramount importance for everyone at the club.
“With that in mind, and having concluded an extensive search for a new manager, we believe Jonathan is the best candidate to lead the team for the final 15 games of the season.”
Woodgate’s first task at hand as the permanent boss will be to steady the ship towards Wembley way. The defeat to QPR will not have helped things, but now, they must bounce back.
The next game, against Cardiff City, who are three points behind them, is a must-win if the Cherries want to maintain any hope of promotion.
