Manchester United and Manchester City have emerged as two of the clubs tracking the progress of Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to Richard Fay of the Manchester Evening News.
The 24-year-old is admired by a whole host of other Premier League clubs and with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also in pursuit, striking a deal for the central defender will be a tough task for both Manchester clubs.

Despite being a wanted man within Europe, United seem set to try their luck for the Villarreal star. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that a new central defender remains top of his priority list, with Torres ticking a lot of boxes.
A natural left-footer makes the 24-year-old the perfect player to partner Harry Maguire as the club try to strike a balance in their defensive third.
Playing every single minute of Villarreal’s La Liga season thus far, he has proved his quality both defensively speaking and from a technical perspective. He is a calming influence in the backline and has the passing range typically associated with a modern-day centre-back.
City’s Interest Seemingly Just Admiration
Last season, a new central defender was what Manchester City were crying out for, and Aymeric Laporte looked like the only City centre-back capable of wearing the shirt.
However, the revitalisation of John Stones and the addition of Ruben Dias has boosted the club immensely, and now the Frenchman is struggling for regular football.
Stones and Dias have almost instantaneously formed a formidable defensive pairing, helping City into a sizeable lead at the Premier League summit.
With three world-class central defenders, coupled with the fact that the club spent £103 million on defensive reinforcements in the summer, the addition of Torres seems like pure speculation rather than being a deal that the club are working towards.
