Portsmouth have confirmed that they have appointed Danny Cowley as their new manager.
The former Lincoln City manager takes over from Kenny Jackett, who departed Fratton Park following the Papa John’s Trophy final defeat to Salford City.
His first game will come against fellow play-off contenders Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Play-Off Ambitions
With just 12 games left of the season, Cowley will be charged with helping the club reach the League One play-offs. Portsmouth are currently 10th in the table with 52 points, just three points off Charlton Athletic in sixth.
As a result, the play-offs are still a realistic target. However, they have won just three of their last 12 games in the league, and a defeat to League Two side Salford City in the Papa John’s Trophy proved to be the final straw for Jackett.
Cowley, though, has a wealth of experience and success under his belt. The 42-year-old enjoyed two promotions in three seasons with Lincoln, firstly winning the National League in the 2016/17 season before collecting the League Two title during the 2018/19 campaign. An EFL Trophy win was also sandwiched in between those successes with the league.
As a result of his success at Lincoln, Cowley then moved to Huddersfield Town after a compensation package was agreed with the Imps.
After a dismal start to the season following their relegation from the Premier League, the 42-year-old helped steer the club away from the threat of relegation. A run of seven games without defeat shortly after joining the club helped kick start the rest of their campaign.

After signing the contract, the new manager said: ”This is a club with unbelievable tradition, so the board didn’t need to sell it to us. We’re proud and privileged to be here.
“We always have the ambition of leaving a club in a better position than we found it. We’ll be doing everything in order to achieve that here.”
