Manchester United Women secured a historic win this weekend in the Women’s Super League, recording a 2-0 victory over West Ham United in the team’s first-ever match at Old Trafford.

Manchester United Overcome West Ham
Manchester United overcame West Ham at Old Trafford thanks to second-half goals from Lauren James and Christen Press.
James claimed the honour of being the first women’s team player to score a goal at Old Trafford when she nodded the ball home after reacting quickest to Maria Thorisdottir’s flick-on inside the box.
The 19-year-old has now achieved an impressive feat of scoring United’s first goals in the Women’s Championship, FA Cup, Women’s Super League and now at Old Trafford.
Despite a spirited performance from West Ham, the result leaves them at the foot of the table following this weekend’s games with nine points from 16 games.
Meanwhile, United remain in the third and final Champions League spot with 38 points from 18 games.
Arsenal Outgun Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby
Arsenal convincingly outgunned Tottenham in a North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, thanks to a goal each from Caitlin Foord, Vivianne Miedema and Katie McCabe.
Foord broke the deadlock in the 26th minute after coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner, before Miedema doubled the Gunners’ advantage 11 minutes later with a brilliant finish.
Extra gloss was added to the scoreline by McCabe when she provided a composed finish of her own just past the hour mark.
The result leaves the Gunners in fourth with 35 points from 17 games and hot on the heels of Manchester United in third.
However, Spurs are now winless in their last seven games, remain eighth with 17 points from 18 games.
Manchester City Edge Out Reading
Manchester City left it late to overcome Reading at the Academy Stadium, but Chloe Kelly’s 87th minute strike was enough to keep them hot on Chelsea’s heels in the Women’s Super League title race.
Lauren Hemp teed up Kelly to tap home the winning goal from close range to edge past a resilient Reading side and ensured they temporarily leapfrogged Chelsea at the top of the table.
The Blues’ 2-0 win over Aston Villa a day later ended their brief stint at the top, but the gap between the two clubs remains at two points.
The defeat for Reading means it’s now four games without a win for Kelly Chambers’ side, and they remain seventh in the table with 20 points from 18 games.
Brighton & Hove Albion Stunned by Five-Star Everton Display
Brighton’s record-breaking four-match winning streak in the Women’s Super League came to an emphatic end with a 5-0 defeat to Everton.
The Toffees ruthlessly swept past the Seagulls thanks to Hayley Raso’s hat-trick, Izzy Christiansen’s penalty and a goal from Simone Magill.
The result gives Everton an added stranglehold on fifth place and are now seven points clear of sixth-place Brighton with 28 points from 18 games.
Chelsea Continue Winning Momentum Against Aston Villa
Sam Kerr’s brace was enough to earn Emma Hayes’ side all three points against Aston Villa and continue to set the pace at the top of the Women’s Super League.
Fran Kirby was the provider for both goals – the Australian headed home from her drifted ball into the box in the 24th minute, before firing in a clinical left-footed strike after linking up well with the England international.
The Blues are now unbeaten in nine matches across all competitions and have 47 points from 18 games.
It is now a fourth defeat in a row for Villa and they drop down to 11th place with 10 points from 16 games – one more than West Ham at the bottom.
Birmingham City and Bristol City Share the Spoils
Birmingham City and Bristol City played out a 1-1 draw in the big bottom-of-the-table clash at Damson Park.
Charlie Wellings put Bristol City in front with just 13 minutes played after she reacted quickest when Carla Humphreys’ effort rebounded into her path.
But Birmingham recovered from behind to claim a point for the second week running, as Christine Murray’s effort found the top corner two minutes shy of the hour mark.
Bristol City move up a place in the table to 10th with 11 points from 18 games, while Birmingham still occupy ninth spot and are two points better off than Matt Beard’s side with a game in hand.
