Summer transfer rumours are starting to pick up now. With new seasons set to end within the next two months, the 2021/22 campaign needs to be thought about. Scouting and approaching potential signings never stop. Now, Watford have their eyes on Alberth Elis, the Honduran winger taking Liga NOS by storm.
Watford Want Boavista’s Alberth Elis
Host Of Clubs Battling for His Signature
According to a report from O Jogo, there are five main clubs linked with his signature. Top-flight football is practically a must for Elis. Ligue 1 sides Bordeaux, Rennes, and Nice all made their interest known in the player, as O Jogo corroborated. The Portuguese outlet now claims that both Brighton & Hove Albion and Watford are also in the hunt for his signature, with some clubs already enquiring about availability and potential fees.
Alberth Elis – Former MLS Star Impressing In Portugal
Elis joined Mexican club Monterrey, from Olimpia in his home nation, in 2016. They loaned him to Houston Dynamo in the January of 2017, where he scored 11 times and assisted three goals in 35 appearances. Houston promptly made his transfer permanent for £2 million at the start of 2018.
In 34 appearances in the 2018 season, he scored 11 times and contributed 12 assists. A 2019 with 19 goal contributions in 31 appearances solidified Elis’s status as one of MLS’s top players.
But, as his contract with the MLS side expired at the end of 2020, Boavista swooped in and secured his services for a bargain of under £1 million.
Now with Boavista, Elis picked up where he left off in the MLS. The right-winger, who can play centrally or on the left if necessary, has blistering pace. In 23 Liga NOS appearances, the 25-year-old has five goals and an equal number of assists.
Perhaps for Watford, what is most noteworthy is that Elis’s strengths (namely pace) are very similar to potentially departing Ismaila Sarr‘s strong suits.
