There were wins for both Arsenal and Manchester United in the Women’s Super League over the weekend, as neither side lost their nerve in the race for that final Champions League berth.

Arsenal Overcome Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League
Arsenal claimed a routine 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Meadow Park thanks to Jordan Nobbs’ brace, who netted a goal in each half against Hope Powell’s side.
The England international broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when her shot from distance squirmed past Megan Walsh in the Seagulls’ goal.
Her second came with 13 minutes of normal time remaining, as Beth Mead laid the ball on a plate for Nobbs to tap the ball home from close-range to make the final score 2-0.
Brighton had limited chances in the contest, but squandered a golden opportunity to net what would have been an equaliser after Emily Simpkins intercepted Leah Williamson in possession and subsequently shot wide with Manuela Zinsberger way out of her goal.
The result leaves the Gunners in third with 41 points from 19 games, while Brighton remain sixth with 24 points from 20 matches played.
Manchester United 4-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester United made light work of Tottenham at Leigh Sports Village, as Ella Toone’s brace and a goal each from Christen Press and Jess Sigsworth kept their Champions League aspirations alive.
Toone opened the scoring in the 10th minute after firing home Kirsty Hanson’s cross from close-range, before she turned provider for Press to double United’s advantage.
Sigsworth added a third, with Hanson claiming her second assist of the afternoon. Toone then got another from the penalty spot after Lucy Staniforth was brought down inside the box.
Spurs netted what proved to be only a consolation thanks to Alanna Kennedy’s superb free-kick in stoppage time.
The Red Devils stay fourth with 41 points from 20 games, while Spurs extended their winless run to nine matches and are in eighth with 17 points 20 matches played.
Birmingham City 1-1 Reading
Birmingham City’s winless run in the Women’s Super League was extended to 11 games after Rachel Rowe’s equaliser denied the Blues a valuable three points against Reading.
Birmingham took the lead through Ruby Mace, as the Royals failed to clear their lines from a corner with only six minutes on the clock.
However, Reading responded through Rowe, who netted just past the hour mark as a reward for dominating proceedings after the break.
The result leaves Carla Ward’s side firmly in the relegation mire in 10th with 14 points from 19 games, while Reading remain seventh with 21 points from 20 matches played.
Aston Villa 2-2 Bristol City
Aston Villa and Bristol City shared the spoils in a pulsating 2-2 draw between the two sides at the Banks’s Stadium on April 24.
Villa broke the deadlock in the third minute when Shania Hayles saw her header take a fortunate deflection off Meghan Sargeant before beating Sophie Baggaley in the City goal.
Their lead was doubled with 35 minutes on the clock when Nat Haigh met Elisha N’Dow’s corner in the box and powered her header past Baggaley.
But it was Faye Bryson that instigated the comeback for City with a fine strike from 18 yards out, before Ella Mastrantonio ensured a dramatic finish to the contest with an equaliser in stoppage time.
The game finished 2-2 and leaves City bottom of the table with 12 points from 20 games, while Villa have the same points tally in 11th, but have a game in hand over their survival rivals.
West Ham United 0-0 Everton
West Ham United claimed another point in their quest for Women’s Super League survival with a goalless draw against Everton.
The Hammers had the better of the chances throughout the 90 minutes, several of which fell to Martha Thomas, while Emily van Egmond also saw a header miss the target.
The result leaves Ollie Harder’s team in ninth with 14 points from 19 games, two clear of Bristol City at the bottom of the table.
Everton remain fifth with 32 points from 20 matches.
