Thomas Tuchel Signs New Contract With Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed that Thomas Tuchel has signed a new two-year deal with the club after an excellent first six months in charge.

The German had originally signed an 18-month contract, but he will now remain with the club until 2024.

Remarkable Turnaround

After sliding down the table under former manager Frank Lampard, Tuchel has managed to turn the club’s fortunes around in impressive fashion.

Chelsea had fallen to ninth by the time Tuchel arrived after an impressive start to the season. However, he quickly created a sturdy defensive outfit – they conceded just two goals in his opening ten Premier League games – which helped them climb the league table.

The impressive second half of the season has seen the Blues become a major force in the Premier League, and many are tipping them to challenge Manchester City for the title next season.

However, it is Tuchel’s achievements in the Champions League and FA Cup that have seen him rewarded with the two-year extension. The Blues toppled City in the Champions League final after a tough run in the knockout stages.

As a result, Chelsea are now trusting the German to build on that and help turn them into a major competitor in domestic competitions and in Europe.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his new deal to the Chelsea club website, the German said: “I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.

“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”

Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea’s director, added: “When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.

“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.

“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”
