Chelsea are in direct negotiations with Inter Milan over a potential deal to bring Achraf Hakimi to the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea Open Talks With Inter Milan Over Achraf Hakimi
Inter Want €80 Million for Hakimi
Chelsea has become the second club that is in direct contact with Hakimi’s camp, as Paris Saint-Germain has offered €60 million for the Moroccan. Negotiations between PSG and Inter are continuing, and the French club is still ‘pushing’ for an agreement.
The 22-year-old is attracting interest after an impressive season at the San Siro, where his seven goals and eight assists played a key role in Inter’s Serie A triumph. The wing-back has doubled Inter’s valuation of him over the season, after signing for €40 million from Real Madrid last summer.
A deal with Chelsea could involve a player swap. They are ‘open’ to offering players to Inter to lower the asking price for Hakimi. Sky in Italy is reporting that Chelsea have so far matched PSG’s offer and that a player the Italian side could take as part of a swap deal could be Emerson Palmieri or Andreas Christensen.
The potential sale would be part of a planned summer clear-out from the club to help improve the finances. The planned sale of several key players led to Antonio Conte departing the club last month. Simone Inzaghi has subsequently replaced him.
Hakimi can play as a wing-back in the 3-4-3 system Thomas Tuchel has deployed in many big games as Chelsea boss or as a traditional full-back if the Blues play in a formation with a back four.
Chelsea is expecting to have money to spend on players like Hakimi with the sale of Fikayo Timori imminent, and the likes of Tammy Abraham and Victor Moses also expected to leave the club this summer.
