Gennaro Gattuso Leaves Fiorentina Role Just 20 Days After Appointment

Gennaro Gattuso

In a stunning turn of events, Gennaro Gattuso has left Fiorentina just 2o days after taking the job. The departure comes after a continuous dispute over transfers with the board, Gattuso and his agent, Jorge Mendes. The news comes as a huge shock when considering the former Napoli man was yet to even oversee a game. It could even go down as one of the quickest managerial departures in history.

Gattuso is known for his hotheaded nature and perhaps one disagreement led to a dispute simply too big to solve. As for Fiorentina, the hunt is now on for a new manager just two months before the season starts.

Who Could Replace him?

In regards to managerial change, this summer has been the busiest in years. The Bundesliga have had their own managerial merry-go-round with Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Monchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt all appointing fresh faces. As for Italy, Juventus, Lazio, Roma and Fiorentina began new eras.

Fiorentina’s ‘new era’ only lasted 20 days, however, with Gattuso gone alongside many candidates who could have replaced him. Jose Mourinho joined Roma, Sarri has joined Lazio and Rafa Benitez is reportedly on the verge of joining Everton. The fact is, Fiorentina have been forced into searching for a new manager at the worst possible time.

When it comes to quality available, there is a lack of options available for the Italian club. Pre-season will be commencing in mid-July and Fiorentina better hope they’ve found a replacement by then. If not, the Italians may struggle to hit their goals in the Serie A next campaign.

Perhaps the reasoning behind Gennaro Gattuso’s departure is enough to scare off any potential candidates. The fact that the dispute was large enough to cause a departure should be an immediate red flag for any on-watching future employees.
