Extended Stay at the Amex

Danny Welbeck initially joined Brighton as a free agent in October 2020. The former Manchester United forward left Arsenal in 2019 and joined Watford. An injury-riddled season saw him score just twice in the Premier League. He was released in June 2020 after Watford’s relegation. Subsequently, he remained a free agent until Brighton came calling. He signed a one-year contract that has now been renewed.

Brighton’s striking woes are well documented. Welbeck provided some experience in that department. Unfortunately, injuries have followed him everywhere. The striker missed a fair chunk of the season through injuries. Despite that, he scored six times in 24 appearances. Brighton, clearly, see him as a valuable player. Welbeck is also a good role model to young forwards such as Aaron Connolly. He has also linked with other forwards and has impacted Brighton’s play.

Welbeck, a Premier League and FA Cup winner, will hope to steer clear of injuries and have a productive season. He has been praised by the club heirarchy, including coach Graham Potter.

Propper Returns to PSV

Dutch midfielder Davy Propper has returned to the Eredivisie. Brighton signed Propper from PSV in 2017. He returns to Eindhoven for an undisclosed fee. At the time of joining, he was Brighton’s club record fee. He was a regular starter in the first three seasons, but injuries affected his availability last season.

Head coach Graham Potter has thanked him and spoken highly of him. Propper leaves his mark on the club with 121 appearances across four years.
