Clarke Signs to 2024 With Norwich
Eighteen-year-old Clarke will link up with Norwich’s U23 squad initially after signing until 2024 with the club. Clarke decided not to sign a new contract with Peterborough to secure a move to a Premier League club.
The attacking midfielder had been with Peterborough since he was nine years old and made his professional debut with the club last September, aged 17. He earned a call up to Scotland’s U19s squad the following month.
Despite making just 11 appearances for Peterborough’s senior team, he impressed several clubs throughout the season, scoring three goals.
Norwich released a statement on the signing today which read: “Norwich City have completed the signing of midfielder Flynn Clarke from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee. Clarke, 18, has put pen to paper on a professional contract with the Canaries. The young midfielder also impressed in the Posh’s Papa John’s Trophy run earlier in the 2020/21 season, being awarded Player of the Round after he scored three goals in three games in the group stage of the tournament. Clarke will initially form part of the club’s development and academy setup.”
Clarke was also quoted on the move in the statement, saying: “This is a great club and I feel absolutely delighted to sign here. I’m over the moon. Norwich have a reputation for the work they do with their younger players. They try to make a pathway for them and that really opened my eyes and grabbed my attention. The club also recently got promoted to the Premier League, so it feels like a no-brainer for me. I’d like to try to make a breakthrough to the senior team, I’d like to show all the fans, staff and players around me what I’m capable of and hopefully, I can get a shirt.”
