Arsenal are yet to dip into the transfer market this summer, although there are plenty of potential deals being discussed – both in and out of the Emirates. Here, we round up the latest Arsenal transfer news where there could be two incomings and two outgoings.
Arsenal Transfer News
Contact With Nuno Tavares
Arsenal have made contact with the agents of Portuguese defender Nuno Tavares. The 21-year-old currently plays in his home country for Benfica, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the youngster dreams of playing in the Premier League.
It’s therefore thought that agreeing on personal terms with Tavares will not be an issue – it will just come down to whether they can agree a price with Benfica.
Arsenal found left-back to be a problem position for them during the 2020/21 season, with both Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka having to fill in there during the season.
Saka’s abilities in the forward positions cannot be compromised any longer, and Xhaka looks to be departing the club for Roma, so it’s certainly a position where Arsenal need to bring somebody in.
Romano also reports that personal terms with Albert Sambi Lokonga will not be an issue either, and that he will not consider any offers from the Serie A sides that want him until Arsenal are in the race.
Villa Make Second Smith Rowe Bid
Aston Villa have had a second bid for Gunners midfielder Emile Smith Rowe turned down, reports The Athletic’s David Ornstein. The Villains had an opening bid of £25 million rejected previously and have now seen their improved offer of £30 million rebuffed too.
Smith Rowe is heading into the final two years of his current contract at Arsenal, although there are ongoing talks about extending his stay after breaking firmly into the first team during the 2020/21 campaign.
Ornstein reports that Villa’s pursuit of Smith Rowe is in no way lined up to be a replacement for Jack Grealish, who has been heavily linked with Manchester City in the last week. However, if their captain was to leave, having Smith Rowe would provide adequate cover.
Inter Keen on Bellerin
Inter Milan are keen to sign Hector Bellerin as a replacement for the outgoing Achraf Hakimi, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. Moroccan full-back Hakimi has agreed a move to Paris Saint-Germain after just one season with Inter and is expected to be confirmed by the Parisiens this week.
Di Marzio reports that there have already been discussions with Bellerin’s agent about a potential loan deal for the Spaniard, and they are confident that if Arsenal were to agree to a loan as well then a dean could be finalised.
