Billy Gilmour Set for Loan Move to Norwich
The Deal Will Be Completed Once Gilmour’s Self-Isolation is Complete
Gilmour completes his self-isolation on Wednesday after testing positive for COVID-19 at Euro 2020. His move to Norwich is then set to be completed on Thursday.
The 20-year-old impressed in his one appearance at the tournament, playing a starring role in Scotland’s 0-0 draw with England at Wembley during the group stages. After his Scottish senior debut, the midfielder’s tournament was cut short by the recent positive COVID-19 test.
Previous to this summer’s European Championships, Gilmour struggled to earn a place in Chelsea’s first team under Frank Lampard and then under Thomas Tuchel. Gilmour made 11 appearances for Chelsea throughout the season, failing to register a goal or assist.
The Blues are keen to see Gilmour depart the club to play first-team football, the club sees him as a crucial player in the long term. Despite a lack of appearances for Chelsea’s senior team, he has impressed at youth level and in the few appearances he has been given for the first team while at Stamford Bridge.
Norwich Continue Premier League Preparation
The Canaries have made several signings this summer aiming to maintain the club’s Premier League status next season, including Werder Bremen winger Milot Raschica and Burnley centre-back Ben Gibson.
While Gilmour joins a long list of signings this summer, Norwich have not handed out massive transfer fees yet this summer. The club’s net spend is near £30 million. With the club set for massive revenue from the Premier League, more signings are to be expected at Carrow Road in the coming weeks.
Daniel Farke has focused on adding more young talent to the club’s ranks this summer. Norwich recently signed Peterborough’s 18-year-old prospect Flynn Clarke for an undisclosed fee.
